BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN EDUCATION AND EMPLOYABILITY.

Isn’t it good when people come together for the purpose of co-creating?

The world is constantly changing, and with these changes come new challenges. We are living in a VUCA world. There are volatile changes with their challenges clogged by a cloud of uncertainty in complex organizational structures and relations which has led our youths to resentment and ambiguity.

One of the biggest challenges facing graduates today is the soft skills gap. The gap between what employers are looking for in new hires and what graduates are bringing to the table is growing. This gap has become so wide that many new graduates are struggling to find employment.

To address this issue, a career coaching and personal development organization; Lapid Leaders Africa has joined forces with Mount Kenya University – MKU to bridge the gap between education and employability.

Lapid Leaders Africa signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mount Kenya University ON 30th January 2023.

This is a dream come true for the Chief Service officer Ms. Esther Mwaniki and the entire Lapid team as giving back to the society, being service leaders, and igniting the prowess of the youths is deeply embedded in the vision of the organization. It is the culture and way of the tribe.

This idea was highly appreciated by the Vice-Chancellor and the MKU administration to equip the students with the right skills for self-development as well as career development. With representatives from both organizations, the memorandum of understanding was signed and sealed at the Mount Kenya university.

The Partnership

The partnership between Lapid Leaders Africa and Mount Kenya University is aimed at bridging the soft skills gap for graduates as they prepare to join the job market. The two institutions will share facilities and sponsorship for students.

This partnership will allow the university to offer its students access to professional career coaching, as well as provide them with the opportunity to develop their soft skills.

As part of creating awareness, the two institutions agreed on creating content to be share in various platforms. The two institutions will offer sponsorships for the interested students as well a fairly subsidized charge.

Currently, there are students who are on the second pillar (Lead Market Place) courtesy of the sponsorship. With such in mind, I would like to highlight on what you need to have to start this journey of self-discovery.

The prospectus candidates should;

1. Be on a quest for self-discovery and realizing their full potential.

2. Have a learners-mindset.

3. Be willing and able to put in the effort to be a better leader.

4. Be eager to upskill and prepare for the VUCA world.

This program is accessible by all the students in Mount Kenya university main campus as well as the satellite campuses. Alumni of the university are eligible and best suited for the program at a subsided charge.

This partnership will help to ensure that graduates are equipped with the necessary skills to be competitive in the job market and achieve their career goals.
