WHAT IS AFRICA DAY?
Africa Day is an international celebration day for Africans and people of African descent all over the world. It is celebrated in commemoration of the foundation of the Organization of African Unity now the African Union that was created in 1963 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The commemoration of Africa Day provides a chance for Africans to reflect on the historical moments as well as to celebrate Africa’s rich culture, history and resources.
WHEN IS AFRICA DAY CELEBRATED
World Africa Day formerly African Freedom Day and African Liberation Day is celebrated on 25th May annually. Africa day celebrates the anniversary of the Organization of African unity. On May 25th 1963, 32 African nations signed the charter to build greater unity and solidarity between African countries and its people. Since then, the 25th May has been celebrated widely across the world particularly in Africa to signify Africa’s identity and unity.
