Unleashing the Power Within: My Journey with Lapid Leaders
Hello there! My name is Denis Karaba, an alumnus of this transformative program, I can attest to the immense impact it had on my life. I have been a member of the Lapid community for a while. 5 years if my math is right. But like every journey of 1,000 miles, it all started with one step.
Join me as I reflect on my experience and the opportunities it provided me during my time at university. Life is full of unexpected twists and turns, and sometimes all it takes is a single opportunity to set us on a path to success. For me, that opportunity came in the form of the Lapid Leaders Program during my time as a university student. As I reflect on my journey, I can confidently say that the university experience was a transformative period that helped shape my self-confidence, self-awareness, and ultimately, my achievements.
Discovering Lapid Leaders
As a third-year student, I was seeking an opportunity to challenge myself, develop my leadership skills, and unlock my full potential. Lapid Leaders stood out to me as an organization that not only offered exceptional training but also prioritized the personal and professional growth of its participants.
One aspect that truly sets Lapid Leaders apart was its emphasis on continuous growth and development. During the long holiday breaks, I eagerly stepped into leadership roles within the Lapid Leaders Council. Leading the council not only sharpened my leadership skills but also provided me with valuable hands-on experience in managing a team and organizing impactful initiatives.
The program’s meet-ups extended my learning beyond the classroom setting. Through interactions with mentors from various industries, I broadened my perspective on the economy and discovered new ways to make a difference. Two meet-ups that stood out were “Design Thinking” and “Visioning.”
In the “Design Thinking” boot camp facilitated by Winnie Muchina, I tapped into my creativity and learned to solve real-world problems. I realized the importance of addressing root causes rather than merely addressing the effects of a problem. By incorporating design thinking principles, I aim to approach challenges with a fresh perspective and seek comprehensive solutions.
The ongoing “Visioning” sessions helped me understand my purpose on this earth. Through one-on-one sessions with mentors, I delved into my life experiences, allowing them to shape my vision. This process has been transformative, as I gain clarity on the purpose I am meant to fulfill.
The Power of Resilience
I was not always the most disciplined student. Procrastination often got the better of me. However, my experience with Lapid Leaders taught me the importance of resilience and commitment. I quickly realized that success follows those who remain steadfast in pursuing their personal and professional growth. Embracing this mindset propelled me forward and set the stage for the achievements I would attain in the years to come.
Exploring New Horizons: Rwanda Expedition
One of the most memorable experiences I had with Lapid Leaders was leading a team on an expedition to Rwanda. This journey allowed me to immerse myself in a new culture, connect with inspiring young leaders from different backgrounds, and witness the incredible work they were doing. Exploring Rwanda was not only a source of adventure and excitement but also an eye-opening experience that broadened my perspective on leadership and the power of community.
During our time in Rwanda, I had the privilege of meeting remarkable young leaders who were making a significant impact in their communities. The connections I made during this expedition were invaluable, as they provided me with insights, inspiration, and a network of like-minded individuals who shared my passion for driving positive change. The experience reinforced my belief in the transformative power of youth leadership and the importance of fostering global connections.
From Program Participant to Chief of Staff
Today, I proudly serve as the Chief of Staff at Lapid Leaders Africa and owe much of my success to the program. The journey from being a program participant to a key member of the organization has been truly transformative. Lapid Leaders equipped me with the skills, knowledge, and networks necessary to thrive in the professional world.
