Under the Baobab

What must our generation build?

Under the Baobab brings leaders, builders and institutions together to confront what Africa still needs to build, and take responsibility for building it.

Across African societies, the baobab was where generations gathered. Elders passed down wisdom, and the young learned what they would one day carry forward. Under the Baobab carries that tradition into one question: what must our generation build?

Where It Began

The Women Who Built Before Us

In May 2024, a journey through Mathare, Mageuzi Hub and Karura Forest asked what freedom means when its work remains unfinished, and what responsibility that legacy places on the generation building now.

Three Platforms

One Movement, Three Ways In

Under the Baobab comes to life through three platforms: activating leaders to build with their influence, recognising leadership that creates value beyond the individual, and opening conversations about what Africa must build next.

01

Women of Purpose

A cross-sector platform activating women to use their leadership, expertise and influence to strengthen institutions and build what society still needs.

02

Top Purpose-Driven Leaders Award

A recognition platform honouring leaders whose excellence strengthens institutions and creates value beyond themselves.

03

The Unbuilt Future

An ideas and dialogue platform that uses articles, live conversations and practical thought leadership to examine what Africa must build for its next chapter.

From Public Platforms to Leadership Development

Under the Baobab recognises leaders, opens up hard conversations, and mobilises people around what Africa must build next.

For those ready to go deeper, Lapid Leaders Africa offers leadership programmes, from short workshops to strategic and executive-level formation.

These pathways help leaders move from personal reflection to institutional contribution, from being inspired to actually building something.

Built by Lapid Leaders Africa

12 years of developing leaders across Africa.

For 12 years, Lapid Leaders Africa has developed leaders across business, government, entrepreneurship and civil society.

More than 1,700 leaders have completed our programmes, while over 40,000 people engage through our wider community, dialogues, webinars and learning platforms.

Under the Baobab carries that learning into a wider public movement, and asks what other institutions could carry forward from it too.
