Under the Baobab
A Movement for Building Africa’s Next Chapter
Under the Baobab is Lapid Leaders Africa’s movement bringing leaders, builders and
institutions together to remember what has shaped us, confront what remains unbuilt and take responsibility for what future generations will inherit.
Across African societies, the baobab offered an intergenerational gathering place where elders shared wisdom, communities deliberated and younger generations learned what they would one day be responsible for carrying forward.

The Women Who Built Before Us
The spirit of Under the Baobab was shaped through a journey that culminated at Karura Forest on Madaraka Day 2024.
Women from different generations gathered to honour elders whose courage, leadership and sacrifice contributed to Kenya’s liberation and nation-building journey.
The gathering reminded us that every generation inherits freedoms, institutions, knowledge and opportunities created by those who came before.
It also left us with a responsibility:
What must we now build for those who come after us?
That question continues to shape Under the Baobab.
THREE PLATFORMS
Under the Baobab comes to life through three platforms advancing women’s leadership, recognising purpose-driven leadership and opening conversations about Africa’s future.
Women of Purpose.
A cross-sector platform activating women to use their leadership, expertise and influence to build what society still needs.
01
Top Purpose-driven Leaders Award
A recognition platform honouring leaders whose excellence creates value beyond themselves.
02
The Unbuilt Future Dialogues
A cross-sector dialogue platform examining what Africa must build for its next chapter.
03
FROM PUBLIC PLATFORMS TO LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
Under the Baobab creates public platforms where leaders are recognised, important questions are brought into conversation and people are mobilised around what Africa must build next.
For those ready to go deeper, Lapid Leaders Africa offers leadership development experiences ranging from short activation spaces to deeper strategic programmes and executive formation.
These pathways help leaders turn reflection and inspiration into greater clarity, stronger leadership capacity and deliberate action.
BUILT BY LAPID LEADERS AFRICA
For 12 years, Lapid Leaders Africa has developed leaders across business, government, entrepreneurship and civil society.
More than 1,700 leaders have completed our programmes, while over 40,000 people engage through our wider community, dialogues, webinars and learning platforms.
Our work sits at the intersection of leadership development, institutional strengthening and future-readiness—helping people navigate change, expand their contribution and build whatAfrica’s next chapter requires.
Under the Baobab carries that commitment into a wider public movement.
The future is not simply something we enter. It is something we build.
Under the Baobab brings together the people, ideas and institutions willing to confront what remains unfinished and take responsibility for what must come next.
